How Following Mindfulness Helped me A Lot

Right now the word “Mindfulness” is a trending topic. Every one is talking about being mindful and following mindfulness in their lives. They say it is very good for you and your mental health. But I just want to ask you a question — What is mindfulness?🤔🧐

Mindfulness is a quality!!

Mindfulness is a type of meditation in which you focus on being intensely aware of what you’re sensing and feeling in the moment, without interpretation or judgment. It can be done in many ways, which I will talk about in a minute.

Meditation is a practice!!

I have already talked about meditation in my other blog. But this one is somewhat different or just one of the types of meditation if you want to say. In this instead of trying to avoid any sensation or thoughts like you do in the normal meditation, you’re just intensely aware of the thoughts and sensations you feel at that moment. You do not judge them. You just become aware of them.

You do not try to control your thoughts. You just let them come and go — just being aware and not interpreting them. Mindful doesn’t mean that you should have you mind full of thoughts, remember that.

Know the difference

You may ask, how can I be mindful? Well, here are some of the things you can do to be mindful.

THINGS TO DO TO BE MINDFUL

  • Start when it’s easy : Don’t start when you are in crisis, rather start when you are in pleasant times.
  • Pay attention to something you do everyday: Just try to focus on the thing you are doing. Like if you are brushing your teeth focus on that one, your thoughts may wonder, it’s quite normal or while walking feel your feet, or while eating feel the taste, or while driving, don’t space out.
  • Approach situations with curiosity: When you encounter uncertain situations, rather than being comfortable, try to be curious about it. This will help you a lot.
  • Breathe whenever you can: I know that we breathe like non stop, but we are unconscious about it. What I am trying to say is that try be aware of your breathe whenever you can. As breathing is one of the key factors in being mindfulness.

These are some of the ways, that you can follow to be mindful in you daily life. Now you may ask what is the difference between mindfulness and meditation. Well, Just read this blog I linked to know more about it.

How I started being mindfulness

I use an app called medito. It really helped me a lot in being mindful. You can download the app in play store and app store.

You can find many audios for different things, like stress and anxiety, sleep and much more. I just do the basic one. I follow the instructions, which just help in acknowledging the thoughts and sensations.

I practice this right before going to bed. You can do it whenever you want.

If you are someone who just want to start right now I have another app for you named atom. This is also available in the app store and play store.

This app is very much suited for beginners. Each session just lasts at most 10 min, which is not very much. This let you create a new habit. I strongly suggest that you use this app, if you are a beginner.

Conclusion

Being mindful really helps in your daily life. I my self have seen positive impact it has on my daily life. I am confident that you will observe the impact it will create once you start practicing mindfulness.
